As Professor Sampson speaks, the attacks on labor and my grandmother’s experience was part of the impetus for my becoming part of the civilian oversight of the LAPD. Grandma Grant survived the ninth floor and was one of the last on the ladder before it collapsed.

In a curious coincidence of history, the buildings across from the Asch/Brown Building were once the former homes of Cornelius Vanderbilt and also the childhood home of William and Henry James. As the neighborhood went into decline, businesses spilled over from Broadway and supplanted the mansions and grand homes.

Dr. Sampson, Could you address the reality that, because, while there are countless OSHA regulations on record, that the methods of enforcing those laws have been largely gutted, it is often suggested that the likelihood of another Triangle Fire or worse is very, very possible?
